Agree with the take. Pens have a tough test. Let’s see what our kids can do.

31 thoughts had some Pens updates. Apparently Montreal has looked or asked about Riikola, Rutherford said the trade market is stale and is likely to hold onto everyone until the team is healthy and forced to make a move.

Definitely agree on using Marino on the left with Gudbranson, I think we discussed that the past few days, but this morning's skater show a Johnson Marino pairing.

Yeah when I was a temp I could do whatever I wanted but it literally outlines not participating in online forums in the code of conduct. So I have to use my phone whenever I have a bit of free time.

Legit question for the metrics community:

Is there a statistic somewhere that tracks potential points based on lack of ES playing time? For example:
Player A has x amount of lost PPG due to the team being on PK and/or PP and said player not being in the ice as much. Over the course of a season, it seems like that could add up.

Or is it just a matter of extrapolating PPG via pp/60?

Best bet is likely to look at 5v5 points per 20.

I think you're right. Does anyone else wonder why whoever created P/60 used a full 60 min game rather than like 20 to "better" line up with something that the average 1-2 line players averages? p/60 has always kind of bothered me.

Avs cruise, 5-2.

Kadri's line kills 'em.

Too much speed up and down the roster for Pens' Cro-Magnon D corp to handle.

If you wanted to get really deep into it you could look at the amount of 5v5 shifts a player gets vs how many 5v5 points they get. Come up with a shift per point metric.

Pens average age: 26.4
Avs average age: 26.0

They're not that young by comparison...

Last year I could watch all the games. This year my shifts end as the games do but we finally got unlimited data in Canada so now I had to join here and spend couple hours a day in the crapper going back and forth between this forum and nhl.com chat and make up my own context from the comments and box score.

It’s an interesting question. Basketball does their perX metric at 36 minutes to basically line up with the absolute max you want any given player to play on any given night in the regular season. Technically, it all comes out to the same number, you’re just defining the fraction differently, but I get your point. It’d be easier to compare it to raw points per game that way.
